The following question was asked by one of the participants to the professor who was teaching us “Macroeconomic performance” : what is the link between the GDP of a country and the happiness of the citizens of this country ? In other words : do we need to increase the production of goods and services of a country ( or the world ) to make its citizens more happy ?
My personal opinion … is that the more we have ( material things ), the more we worry about losing something, we forget to enjoy life and the less we take care of our environment …The more we are ( strong, wise, aware, self developed,… ), the more we enjoy life and are able to take care of our environment and make it enjoyable. Greater GDP means having more. Therefore my answer to the question is NO ! Generally speaking, the increase of GDP doesn’t make the citizens more happy.
What is your opinion ?
